Common Effects and Dangers of Sleep Deprivation

Sleep Scoring centers in India constantly report cases where the patient had originally come with complaints of drowsiness during the day, headaches, etc. without the slightest suspicion of suffering from Sleep Disorders. Since the patients do not usually remember or are aware of the interruptions faced during sleep, ignorance of Sleep Disorders is a vital obstacle which needs to be overcome. In the same vein, we hereby discuss some of the common effects of Sleep Deprivation and their dangers.

Drowsiness during the Day

This is the most obvious effect of Sleep Deprivation which can be easily observed. A good night’s sleep is essential for the body to rest completely and have enough energy to go through the next day. An interrupted sleep at night will result in drowsiness during the day. Extreme cases will lead to episodes of falling asleep even if you fight it. This can lead to dangerous situations while driving or engaging in hazardous tasks. Studies at the Havard Medical School show that in cases, where the subject sleeps less than 5 hours a night, the risk of death increases by 15%.

Weak Immune System & Irritability

Lack of proper sleep has a direct effect on the nervous system, including the brain. Thus your emotional behavior and cognitive abilities get affected and you find yourself getting irritated at the minutest of issues. Lack of proper sleep for long durations also weakens the immune system resulting in frequent episodes of sickness.

Weight Gain

Due to a lot of factors coming into play in cases of Sleep Deprivation, the subject may see unexplained weight gains. This, in turn, has ill-effects on the cardiovascular system of the body.

Respiratory Diseases

Obstructed breathing during sleep is one of the leading causes of Sleep Deprivation. Since, the respiratory system has to work extra hard to allow the body its quota of oxygen, Sleep Disorders also result in chronic pulmonary diseases.

Be on the lookout for the above symptoms as they are most probably indicating that you are suffering from one or more Sleep Disorders. It may very well be time to visit a Sleep Study Scoring center so that you can be put back on the path of a normal life before further damages are done.
